Massacre at Waco
Was this necessary?

Instant philosophers began debating the intrinsic value of human
life since man first realized he was a thinking creature. Men of
conscience, intellect and humanity have long ago deduced the
answer. Life is so precious as to be inestimable in terms of is
material worth. There are no other possessions that a man may
acquire that can even compare to the unique quality of his human
spirit. In the normal course of nature we have reasonable
expectations to enjoy our existence for the length of time nature
has prescribed, the length of a human lifetime. This force, this
spirit, is totally unique. Unlike a machine that may be
disassembled, shelved, and later reassembled and used again, the
human spirit, or life force, has only one time period to serve its
purposes. When a human life force ceases to exist, it will never
know the reality of consciousness again. This is why, we as
Americans, place the value of human life above all else.
If the incident at Waco had occurred in El Salvador, perpetrated
by their federal army, the world would be incensed at the
inhumanity. A hue and cry would swell amongst the righteous
nations for inquiry and justice.
In this country, after a person is convicted and sentenced to
death through due process, years will pass as appeal after appeal
is exhausted in the cause of true justice. This is because, until
now, we placed such high values on human life.
Why did the FBI condemn these people in Waco to death after
only 51 days? How could our new President and Attorney General
approve of such holocaust type measures. Why was the tragic
outcome not foreseen as a possible senario and plans made to
circumvent the death of those men, women and children.
The FBI indicated the public wanted immediate action. This was
a horrible false indictment of the compassion and patience of
the american public. I am outraged at the insinuation.
The Attorney General said she acted on the basis of the "best
advice" she could get. Are we to believe that in this day and age
of information and technology, no one was available to suggest
simple patience and restraint? After all, these were not violent
criminals who were recently trapped in a building after robbing
and killing guards during a bank robbery. They were religious
people, protecting their rights according to their beliefs.
This issue goes deeper than the simple duties of our duly
empowered law enforcement to apprehend citizens involved in
activities where probable cause would be apparent and justify
immediate action.
I wonder if the Director of the FBI would have been so glib on TV,
in reporting his duties, if one of his grand children were inside
that building in Waco. Every american should be asking themselves
that same question.
